The hard disk (disc) PCB (printed circuit board), hard disk controller board or hard disk electronic board or simply hard disk board, it is the circuit board that is screwed to the back of the hard disk drive (HDD).
Hard drive failures are NOT always caused by a bad (failed) PCB—only about 25-30% of data loss occurs due to failed electronic components. The PCBs are intended for individuals attempting data recovery on the hard disk drive. When a PCB circuit board fails, you can repair your hard drive through a changing or replacement of PCBs.
Hard Drive PCB Failure Symptoms:
- No power, No Spin, No Sound.
- Burning smell.
- PCB is extremely hot.
- Power surge. Connect the hard drive case to wrong power supply.
- Hard drive makes Clicking sound, never stop (Clicking and stop may not be board issue).
- Obvious damage on the PCB board.
- The hard drive does not spin up (the hard drive never fell or was shaken),either no sound or can hear a quiet tickling sound.
- If the hard drive simply can't be detected, or if it is clicking, then it could be a circuit board problem, but it could easily be internal damage as well.
